St Patty's day and weapons that are illegal in some countries.

Last Thursday was St Patrick's day. I've never really given a crap about St Patrick's day to be quite honest with you. It's always seemed rather contrived and a bit over the top in a lot of ways to me. But, this year, just like every other year, I went along with the crowd and joined my friends at an Irish bar in Gangnam, Seoul, for an all you can eat and drink Guiness Extravaganza!
Tickets cost 50,000 won, which is kind of a lot. But it was all you can drink. Luckily, in my opinion anyway, the beer seemed somewhat watered down so it was actually drinkable. I don't normally like Guiness all that much. But this time it was pretty good. The only problem was, the bar was really full of crazy Westerners dressed in green who all wanted some of their 'free' Guiness. And since Guiness takes a while to pour, what with the thickness of the head and all, lines were really long and slow.
However I managed to enjoy myself anyway. I didn't really wear green, though. Although luckily no one seemed to care. Only one person asked, and I just pointed to the jade jewelry I was wearing and submitted that this was all I needed.
My friends told me that I can't claim both German and Irish ancestry anyway, and since I seem to have chosen the German side they said it didn't matter what I wear.
They didn't wear green either, but they DID stop at the store to buy potatoes. Which they said supports the Irish a lot more than wearing green face paint. I had to agree.

Here are some pictures:

Here, Reed found an Irishman to whom he gave his potato as a gift. The Irishman was actually quite touched by the gesture. It was hilarious.

So, in other news...
in Taekwondo the other night I was the only one in class for one reason or another. So the senior master decided to start teaching me nunchaku skills. Yes. Nunchuks. I was SO excited. The following night we spent about half the class working on it, and he gave them to me to take home for the weekend to practice. I felt SO COOL walking down the street twirling those things. My dad tells me that they are actually illegal to posses in some countries as well as a few states. I guess this just means I can never live in those places. Because I fully intend to purchase a set as soon as possible.
Here is a demonstration for you:

Well, that about covers it for now. I really hope to hear from some of my readers...if you can't figure out how to post a comment, e-mail me! It would be nice to hear from you.

Wow, you really twirl those things around! Thought I heard a clunk when it hit your elbow maybe? You can certainly be German, Irish and Swedish, interesting mix though!
Don't know why you aren't getting posts to your blog. I didn't realize you posted again until just now. Maybe people got out of the habit of checking.

t - VERY impressive! I still think that your stint in the marching band twirling the flag has helped you to NOT whack yourself in the head with those things! As far as your Ethnic background goes, it's GERMAN, GERMAN, GERMAN! Grandpap would have it no other way. (Well, MAYBE a little Swede, to make Big C happy! :) Nice post BTW.. that Reed guy looks kind of cute! mom

lol...no dad i didnt hit my elbow this time. i learned a few new moves last night and the cute master was impressed and the senior master told me that if i get my black belt he will give me some nunchuks as a gift. As if i needed another incentive to get to that point.

mom, i really don't think flag twirling helped...the nunchuks are a completely different animal, since they are 2 sticks rather than one. I think color guard would help me if i were learning the bo staff if anything. All in good time.

Very impressive. I was wondering if you had ever twirled the batton. You didn't even break a sweat or get out of breath. Actually your great, great grandmother (my mother's mother), as far as I know was really from Ireland. Grandma H
