Some days are like that, even in Korea.

Today I woke up late and had to skip breakfast. I hate skipping breakfast.

Ok, I can't keep up this type of narrative. But basically it wasn't the greatest day. I thought things were going ok in Kindy and Sean came in and told me the director was upset with me because the kids I need to teach the kids more phonics. Which I'm thinking, how the hell am I supposed to sit down a couple 3-4 year olds for an hour and teach them from a book? So he did this for about 15 minutes then left and I tried, marginally successfully, to pick up where he left off. So then I spoke to her as Sean suggested letting her know I got the message and she told me that she thinks the kids need more activities. Which is more in line with what I was thinking.
So i'm not entirely sure exactly WHAT she wants. I guess i'll try more phonics related activities? Ugh.

Then she told me later I can move to my new apartment whenever I want after today, so I said how about tomorrow? And she said that's fine. But oh, it's not furnished yet. So I said, um, I'd rather wait until it has a refrigerator and bed in it. Apparently the bed I have will come with me, I think, and I'll get one of the futons from school. But the rest? I don't know. So, yeah. Not sure what the deal is. I feel that she and I have a bit of a language gap we need to over come. So anyway I might be moving tomorrow or I might be moving this weekend. Or I don't know.

Then finally after my 2 afternoon classes it was time to go home! So I made some ramen for dinner, which didn't really sit well, it was too salty. Then I went to Taekwondo. But that kinda sucked too because he had us jumping rope. And I discovered that I am pretty much incapable of jumping rope. I totally embarrassed myself. I am going to go ahead and blame it on the rope being too short for me. Yeah, that's it.

But it ended well I guess. Even though I struggled with some of the things in class he was still nice about it. We talked after and he said there is a big tournament at the University he went to in Suwon in October and maybe we can all go together. I am in favor of this.
But then after class Hannah told me that I need to not be so shy when I talk to him. So she taught me a few phrases to use tomorrow such as 'what did you eat tonight?' and, "Let's go together!". So we'll see how that goes..

So anyway even though taekwondo kicked my butt tonight it was still fun. It's always worthwhile. I think though that if he didn't know already, I taught him a few choice English swear words while struggling with my rope...seriously, it got caught in my hair a few times. Really embarrassing. Really.

While Hannah and I were waiting to cross the street I thought I heard my name, but then thought no, I must be hearing voices again. lol not again, but for some reason I decided it was my imagination. Then I heard it again and saw Kevin and Keith. So i said hi to them and introduced Hannah, then we crossed and Hannah and I talked for a while as she tried to teach me those important phrases. We'll have to practice tomorrow in school.

Ok, so the day ended ok, even though I was embarrassed, I'll still take embarrassment+Cutie over No Embarrassment and no Cutie.
Another good thing today, because let's focus on the positives, right?
Today was one of the Kindy kids' 6th birthday. He's in the older class, so he's not really 'my' student but we share a space and we are together sometimes. He's my favorite of all of the kids. His name is Thomas. I actually managed to take a few pictures! Here are a few pictures...they aren't the greatest but you get the idea.

Here is the whole class sitting at the table waiting to cut the cake:

Here is Thomas (making the angry face) and next to him is Kevin, my 5 yo.

Here's the whole class again with the cake...
In the back you can see the pissed of Hanni, the hyper Joshua, Alice,
Then there's the cute Jasmine, who's in my class...pretty sure she's only 3, then Thomas, Suzan is hiding, and Kevin the pirate.

Most of the time they're pretty cute. I like eating lunch with them. It's just when I try to get them to do things they don't want to do that I hate my life.

But it was a fun little birthday party. Thomas' mom brought a Thomas the Tank Engine cake and it was really really good. She brought pecan pie once too. I like Thomas' mom.

what cute/darling kids!! They don't look "to scary" to me! About teaching them phonics..... are they looking for something like teaching the sounds of the letters? C - A - T, (for example),then have them do an art activity where they make cat faces, or puppets, or something? You can always have them act out animals in a game... Good luck, and hang in there! I'll see what websites I can find that have ideas and send them to you. Mom
